Official rules for the Redhill & District Bar Billiards League

League Rules

1League Administration

The league shall be called the Redhill & District Bar Billiards League (RDBBL). The league shall be controlled by a Chairman, Vice Chairman, League Secretary, Competition Secretary, League Administrator, Treasurer and general committee members all elected at the AGM.

2Registration Fee

All teams entering the league shall pay a registration fee set at the AGM. Additional players may register at the discretion of the committee.

3Match Format

  • All league matches played Tuesday evenings, starting by 8:15pm
  • Five players constitute a team
  • Three players must be available to start by 8:15pm
  • If a player isn't available by 9:00pm, nominated reserve plays

4Match Postponement

Captains must notify opponents and League secretary of cancellations beforehand. It is the captain's sole responsibility to rearrange postponed matches before the league end date.

All disputes discussed by the committee, whose decision is final.

5Four Player Rule

Teams can register with a minimum of four players. When a team has only four players:

  • Fifth game drawn from players 1-4
  • Team forfeits the break
  • Only first game score counts for averages and POY

6League Structure

  • 2 divisions (A and B), 6 teams each
  • Home and away matches, 5 games per match
  • 1 point per win, 0.5 per draw (5 points total)

7Late Arrivals

Late arrivals noted on result card. Consistent lateness may result in committee penalties.

8Break Sequence

Away team breaks games 2, 3, 5. Home team breaks games 1, 4.
Exception: 500+ point difference rule applies

9Player Transfers

No player may play for multiple teams or transfer without committee consent.

10Registration

No unregistered players. Notify League secretary before playing.

11Result Cards

Submit by Thursday (email) or Friday (hand delivery).

12High Scores

Captains record all high score and break claims on result cards.

13Junior Players

Under 18 notified at registration. Under 16 requires committee permission.

14Playing Time

Tables should run 17-20 minutes.

15Division Winners

Determined by: 1) Team points 2) Games won 3) Average score

16Player of the Year

Division A POY

Average > 3500

Division B POY

Average ≤ 3500

Points: 2 for win, 1 for draw, 0 for loss

17High Scores & Breaks

Same division split as POY (3500 threshold). Players may opt into Division A.

18All England

Division A winners represent RDBBL at All England Championships.

19Rule Proposals

Written proposals required two weeks before AGM. Must be seconded.

20AEBBA Rules

RDBBL plays under All England Bar Billiards Association rules.

21Averages

Calculated using 3-year average excluding zero scores.

Presidents Cup

  • Five game knockout on neutral table
  • Coin toss determines break sequence
  • If 2-2, final game over two legs

Bill Burwood Handicap Cup

  • Five game handicap basis
  • Free entry for all league teams
  • Final played home & away

Reg Stone Singles

Avg ≤ 3500, 2 legs

Open / Ladies / Over 50's

2 legs, highest aggregate

Memorial Cup

Open, 2 leg handicap

Pairs Competitions

Terry Allen Pairs

Avg ≤ 3500, 2 legs (4 final)

Open / Ladies Pairs

2 legs (4 in final)

Mixed Pairs

Ladies break both legs

General Competition Rules

1.No practice on competition tables 2 weeks before event
2.Closing dates must be adhered to
3.Results to Competition Secretary immediately
4.Ties decided by penalty shoot-out
